The department of Pharmaceutics is one of the key departments of the Institute. It is equipped with state of the art facilities to undertake research in drug development and delivery. The department of Pharmaceutics is a place where team work and commitment to excellence in academia, research and development is demonstrated through productivity and success of our faculty and students. We provide a training environment that includes Pilot plant laboratory developed as cGMP considerations, sophisticated instrumentation and technologies supervised by experienced teachers and dedicated staffs.
The department is equipped with the state of art laboratories including pilot plant laboratory and Class 10000 aseptic area which are true replica of industrial set up, ultra-modern facilities and competitive staff which have been considered as most sophisticated infrastructure. The department is being headed by Dr.G.D.Basarkar who is having more than 22 yrs of industrial experience in various departments like Production, R&D/FD and Technology Transfers and 13 yrs of academic experience supported by highly qualified and skilled faculty.
Objectives
· The primary objective of the department of Pharmaceutics is to train the students with basic knowledge in the field of pharmaceutics and apply them in research and innovation.· This is primarily to help students to understand the specific subject areas within the discipline. These include Physical Pharmaceutics, Compounding and Dispensing, Industrial Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology.
· The Department of Pharmaceutics seeks to achieve excellence in the education and training of Pharmacists, equipping Pharmacy graduates and Post graduates to meet the present and future pharmaceutical healthcare needs of the country in all spheres of pharmacy, viz. communities / retail, hospital, industry, academic and research development.

Research and Innovation
· The department of Pharmaceutics lays strong emphasis on the in-house research, sponsored research and collaborative research funded by the international and national agencies and strong industrial interaction .The department undertakes research projects from various government as well as private funding agencies including AICTE, UGC, DST and Savitribai Phule Pune University. These research grants helped the department in modernizing the labs with sophisticated instruments and equipments to meet academic and industrial consultancy requirements. The sophisticated instruments procured through the research grants have helped the PG students and Research scholars to do the research of high repute and the same has been published as articles in journals of high impact factor. The department has marked its importance in research activities with more than 50 national & international publications and IPR by having 3 published patents in the area of drug delivery. Academic and research excellence is achieved by industrial training, interaction with expertise and organizing seminars and conferences to meet the current requirements of pharmaceutical Industries, academics and regulatory bodies. The department also has excellent placement record. A strong aluimni group comprising more than 900+ pass out students ready to do needful to place their juniors in various pharmaceutical industries.
· The PG program was established in AY 2008-09 and is actively engaged in the teaching and research of different areas of Pharmaceutics like Pharmaceutical Technology, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, Physical Pharmaceutics, Industrial Pharmacy and Drug Delivery Systems.
· The Research activities of department focus on exploring natural polymers and excipients for drug delivery, ocular drug delivery, nasal drug delivery, gastroretentive drug delivery, pulmonary & transdermal drug delivery etc.
