The department in its long standing tenure since its inception, has marked a niche for itself. In the four-year-span of graduation, the faculty actively inculcates the art and expertise in the students, nurture the discipline required for learning and performing chemical experimentations, and make them robust to confront any warships in the field. As a result, alumni of the department are well placed and attracting applauds in pharmaceutical industry.

The students are put to hardships so as to make them competitive enough for excelling at National level. Over the past decade, number of students have claimed their seat for higher education in premier institutes in India.

Apart from training the students, the faculty also undertakes to train and update the supportive staff over laboratory safety and handling hazardous chemicals, so as to ensure safeguarding the students. The skills of first-aid measures to be taken in case of unfortunate accidental cases are imparted so that they responsibly remain on their toes for the safety of students.

The research activities of the department has richly percolated to the student community resulting in several achievements as Intellectual property (8 patents published), copyright act (1 software), doctoral research (8 Ph. D. awards received from Savitribai Phule Pune University), post-graduate scholars (33 students), 125 scientific articles in national and international periodicals of high repute, 15 text books & 5 chapters in edited books. The scientific activities of the department has been well received in conferences around the world; a high appreciating number of awards, 20 in all, has been fetched by students and faculty,  for their pain-staking efforts in scientific presentations.

The faculty sensibly undertakes the Scientific Social Responsibility by reaching out to help the society.  Guest and invited lectures have been delivered by the faculty in colleges and social platforms within the country. Scientific methods were developed to detect adulterated milk, and those were published in local newspaper in order to train public and help them to avoid the menace of milk-adulteration.  During the Covid-19 era, the faculty generously distributed home-made hand-sanitizers to the general public for months, which proved instrumental in saving lives.

At present, the whole department is prospectively involved in research activities concerned with several forms of cancer, and aims at popularizing itself as a renowned research centre against the disease.

The department is laced with rich and modern facilities as sophisticated instruments worth 30 lakhs, electrochemical instruments worth 16 lakhs, and miscellaneous laboratory equipment worth 40 lakhs. The faculty is involved in annual care-taking activity of the sophisticated instruments, regular maintenance of the laboratory equipment, and replenishing the laboratories with miscellaneous chemicals. 

The department houses in-all four laboratories, namely, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, & Sophisticated Instrument Laboratory, where the required experimental skills & discipline are fostered in the students.
