Pharmaceutical chemistry is interdisciplinary science that deals with the design, synthesis, identification, development and analysis of New Chemical Entity (NCE). This study helps to understand mechanism of action of drug at molecular level. Modern approaches like quantitative structure activity relationship, computer aided drug design, High performance liquid chromatography, UV spectroscopy, Infrared spectroscopy etc. are used to study the chemical nature of drugs. The students are well prepared with the application of modern information and scientific technologies in drug development safety and efficacy studies. The department is well equipped with necessary apparatus and instruments in different chemicals aspect of drugs like physical, analytical, organic, inorganic, biochemical, medicinal etc. There are well equipped laboratories for undergraduate students and research labs for postgraduate students.

The Pharmaceutical chemistry department aims to develop highly competent, professional, skillful pharmacist with a wide scientific background that contributes to the community development.

Objectives

The objective of Pharmaceutical Chemistry department is to give the students (undergraduate and postgraduate) a wide and diverse scientific background and a rewarding and challenging program of study. Areas of active interest include drug design and discovery, organic synthesis of medicinal and pharmaceutical agents, chemistry of natural and synthetic products, structure-activity relationship, molecular modeling and many other related topics.
