Is a subject of prime importance in the course of homoeopathy & is studied all through 4 & ½ years of BHMS course. Our Institute also runs Post Graduate M.D. (Hom) in Homoeopathic Materia Medica, an 3 years regular course after graduation.

It is a subject which deals with the study of Homoeopathic Medicines - its origin, preparation, its effects of proving the drug substances on healthy human beings & then its effects upon a diseased person; and also the application of knowledge of disease to the knowledge of drug in practice.

As on today more than 5000 medicines are thoroughly proved and used for treating the sick & restoring them back to cure. Different sources are utilized for preparing the medicines - like vegetables, animals, chemicals, nosodes, sarcodes & imponderabilika (energy forms). As a matter of cact many of the poisonous fatal or dangerous substances have been converted into life saving medicine. i.e. “BANE turned in to a BOON”.

The department is equipped in all ways to make the students understand the subject more better, we have many Audio-Visual aids, C.D’s, transparencies, books in departmental library, charts, specimens & also case demonstrations. And also a very dedicated & qualified faculty who conducts lectures, tutorials, seminars, tests regularly & everready to guide the students.

Course Outcome

I BHMS

• Homoeopathic Materia medica consists of a schematic arrangements of symptoms produced by each drug on healthy human beings of both sexes and different ages.
• Study of drug in detail will enable a student to study each drug individually and as a whole and help in to be a good prescriber.
• By the end of 1^st BHMS , students must know about basic concept, construction, sources, classification (types) and scope and limitation of HMM.

II BHMS

• A student completing the course of 2^nd BHMS must know the basic concept, construction, and classification, types of HMM.
• Also he must know Science and philosophy of HMM.
• Different ways of studying HMM like – physiological, pathologiocal, analytical, comparative and portrait study with comparative materia medica.
• A detail schematic study of 50 drugs from analytical , clinical , and comparative point of view.
• Commonly used drugs to be taught first.
• Application of materia medica should be demonstrated in their case studies, recorded in their journals.

 III BHMS

• By the end of 3^rd BHMS course a student must know all the basic concept learned in 1^st and 2^nd BHMS.
• He need to know in detail the 78 drugs given along with their clinical, therapeutic, comparative and remedy relationship.
• He also must  know the concept of nosodes – definition, types, and indications and contraindication of them.
• He must know about the concept of mother tincture and its clinical applications.
• General and detailed emphasis on the concept of constitution, temperament, diathesis also must be made clear by the students.
• Clinical and therapeutic application of the drugs studied, to be applied in cases studied in OPD and IPD and recorded in the case record.

 IV BHMS

• In the final year of UG curriculum student must know all the basic concepts and drugs studied in 1^st,2^nd,3^rd BHMS.
• He must know 122 drugs more in final BHMS some of which are polycrest and some short acting drugs.
• He must understand the concept of sarcodes - definition, indication, etc.
• He must study the drugs in different aspects like clinical, therapeutic, group study, comparative study and also remedy relationship.
• He must be able to correlate the knowledge of MM to that of organon and repertory and other clinical subjects.
• He must be perfect in case taking, forming the totality of symptoms and with the help of organon, repertory and clinical subjects must arrive at proper diagnosis, prognosis and management including posology.
• Must maintain a proper clinical case record of cases seen in OPD and IPD of our institute which will give him the necessary confidence for practice.

 SPECAILITY COURSE  PG 1^ST

• The purpose of this course is to train the basic homoeopathic graduate in the field of HMM, the entire experience of basic and applied aspects of HMM including philosophical background and conceptual framework necessary to understand different approaches and their  clinical application.
• He should understand the functional, structural, psychological and causative aspect of HMM – useful in his residential posting.
• Should have profound knowledge of rare and uncommon remedies to achieve restoration of health at any level.
• To be able to deliver the knowledge to the students in form of lectures.
• Have high degree of proficiency both in theoretical and practical aspect of HMM backed by scientific knowledge and philosophy.
• He should be able to evolve matching methods and technique that will help him understand MM by forming the portrait of disease to bring about cure.

 SPECAILITY COURSE PG 2^ND

• To attain adequate knowledge and develop high standard in approach and management of sick.
• To develop good teaching skill to impart knowledge to next generations.
• To obtain competency in providing complete health care to the needy.
• Must be able to coordinate and update the advances in science and knowledge of homoeopathy.

Program Specific Outcome

• To understand the schematic arrangements of symptoms produced by each drugs.
• Each drugs to be studied analytically, clinically and comparatively to be a good prescriber.
• Commonly used drugs to be studied 1^st and in detail to enable to apply the knowledge clinically.
• Therapeutic parts in relation to HMM emphasized for better clinical application.
• Application of MM should be studied by demonstrating its application on cases.
• Teaching should be with the help of adequate specimen, herbarium, charts, audio-visual aids, etc.
• Regular seminars, tests, exams and tutorials to be conducted to assess and evaluate and enhance the quality of student.
• By the end of 4 1/2 year of curriculum students will be made aware of 250 drugs in detail and their relations.
• Final outcome is to successfully apply the knowledge of HMM clinically on patients, outdoor and indoor and so also, benefit the suffering mankind.
